BLBG: U.S. Consumer Prices Fell 0.7% in January, Core Rate Rose 0.2%
(Bloomberg) -- The U.S. consumer-price index declined 0.7 percent in January after dropping 0.3 percent the prior month, a Labor Department report showed Thursday in Washington. The median forecast of economists surveyed by Bloomberg called for a 0.6 percent decrease.
Excluding volatile food and fuel, the so-called core measure rose 0.2 percent after rising 0.1 percent in December.
The forecast for consumer prices was based on the median of 87 economists in a Bloomberg survey. Estimates ranged from declines of 0.3 percent to 1 percent.
