NEW YORK (MarketWatch) -- Crude futures fell in very volatile trading on Friday, erasing their brief rally above $72 a barrel that came after the government reported that job losses moderated in July. The U.S. dollar, however, surged against its major rivals in the aftermath of the data, pressuring dollar-denominated crude prices. Crude oil for September delivery was last down 10 cents to $71.85 a barrel in electronic trading on Globex. Earlier, the contract rose to an intraday high of $72.84 a barrel.
