LONDON (MarketWatch) -- The U.S. dollar trimmed gains versus the Japanese yen Tuesday, but regained some lost ground versus the euro after data showed U.S. producer prices fell 0.9% in July. Separately, U.S. housing starts were flat in July. The euro traded at $1.4091 versus the dollar a gain of 0.1% on the day and off slightly from around $1.41 just ahead of the data. The dollar traded at 94.64 yen, a gain of 0.2% on the day, but down from around 95.05 yen ahead of the figures.
