NEW YORK (MarketWatch) -- The dollar remained higher versus a basket of foreign counterparts in Thursday after the Labor Department said 576,000 Americans filed initial claims for jobless benefits, more than economists expected. The dollar index (DXY 78.53, +0.06, +0.08%) , which tracks the greenback against a trade-weighted basket of six major currencies, traded at 78.537, up from 78.485 late Wednesday. Still to come are a report on manufacturing from the Philadelphia Federal Reserve and an index of leading economic indicators.
