NEW YORK (MarketWatch) -- Natural gas futures gained more than 2% on Thursday after the Energy Department reported a smaller-than-expected increase of U.S. gas in storage in the week ended Sept.11. Natural gas for October delivery jumped 2.6% immediately after the report. It last gained 7 cents, or 1.5%, to trade at $3.83 per million British thermal units. Analysts surveyed by Platts expected an increase of between 72 and 76 billion cubic feet to natural gas storage inventories for the week that ended Sept. 11.
