NEW YORK (MarketWatch) -- Energy stocks rose in early action on Friday to finish out a strong week that saw the sector touch new highs for 2009. The NYSE Arca Oil Index (XOI 1,055, +2.69, +0.26%) rose 0.5% to 1,068. The NYSE Arca Natural Gas Index (XNG 510.64, +1.64, +0.32%) rose 0.6% to 512. The Philadelphia Oil Service Index (SOX 326.91, +5.53, +1.72%) rose 0.6% to 195. The broad market provided a lift as we'l, with the Dow Jones Industrial Average (INDU 9,845, +60.76, +0.62%) up 53 points. Natural gas futures rose 3% to trade near $3.58 per thousand British thermal units.
