NEW YORK (MarketWatch) -- The dollar added on to gains on Monday after the Conference Board reported a smaller-than-expected rise in U.S. leading indicators in August. The dollar index (DXY 77.01, +0.46, +0.60%) , which measures the U.S. unit against a basket of six major currencies, stood at 76.952 compared with 76.895 ahead of the report. The Conference Board's index of leading indicators rose 0.6% last month, compared with the 0.7% average forecast of economists surveyed by MarketWatch.
