MY: Sensex extend gains; Realty leads
 
The Sensex extended its gains on account of heavy buying seen in index heavyweights. Realty gained the most followed by IT, tech and oil & gas stocks, which also led the surge, while power edged lower.

BSE Midcap and Smallcap index rose 1.57% and 0.77% respectively.

Indian stock market begun the day on a positive terrain after a fall of 3.09% on the previous working day. The 30-share index, BSE Sensex opened with a gain of 83.03 points, at 15,487.97 on Wednesday.

In the previous day session, the Sensex ended with a loss of 491.34 points, or 3.09%, while the NSE Nifty declined by 147.80 points, or 3.14%.

Currently, the 30-share index Sensex is trading up 282.26 points, or 1.83%, at 15,687.20, after touching a high of 15,711.51 and a low of 15,487.97. Meanwhile the broad based Nifty is trading higher by 81.60 points, or 1.79%, at 4,645.50, after hitting a high of 4,651.20 and a low of 4,565.00. (11.00 a.m.)

Overall market breadth is positive. Out of the total 2,185 stocks traded at BSE, 1,216 advanced, 909 declined while 60 remained unchanged.

Among the sectoral indices, BSE Realty rose 4.53%, IT rose 3.05%, Oil & Gas rose 2.47%, TECk went up 2.24% and FMCG climbed 1.95%, while BSE Power went down 0.07%.

Major gainers in the 30-share index were Jaiprakash Associates (5.76%), Infosys Technologies (3.60%), DLF (3.55%), Sterlite Industries (India) (3.52%), ICICI Bank (3.40%), and Hindalco Industries (2.93%).

On the other hand, Tata Power Company (2.10%), Tata Steel (0.94%), NTPC (0.51%), and Bharat Heavy Electricals (0.44%) were the major losers in the Sensex.
