MY: Rupee edges higher to 46.81/82 against the dollar
Indian rupee appreciated against the greenback in the early trades, its highest in more than a week on Friday boosted by gains in Asian equity markets.
At 9:07 am the partially convertible rupee was at 46.81/82 against the dollar, its strongest since Oct. 27, 2009, and above its previous close of 47.0150/0250.
Asian stocks rose, paring a weekly loss, after Australia`s central bank more than tripled its economic growth forecast and reports showed US unemployment claims and worker productivity beat estimates.
Japanese benchmark index Nikkei 225 gained 110.44 points, or 1.14%, to trade at 9,827.88 while Hong Kong`s Hang Seng index rose 440.27 points, or 2.05%, to trade at 21,919.35.(8.09 a.m., IST)
