Gold traded within touching distance of its record high on Friday while oil prices rose and base metals inched higher in cautious trading ahead of vital US employment data.
Gold reached a session high of $1,096.05 a troy ounce before easing back to $1,094.50, within striking distance of the record $1,097.25 reached on Wednesday, following Tuesday’s news that India’s central bank had bought 200 tonnes of bullion from the International Monetary Fund.
