HONG KONG (MarketWatch) -- Indian shares slipped early Tuesday as resource-linked stocks, such as Hindalco Industries Ltd. (HNDF.F 0.00, 0.00, 0.00%) , declined with the broad retreat in Asian equities. Gains in automobile companies, however, helped narrow losses. The 30-stock Sensex was down 0.2% at 17,140.60 in early morning trading, while the 50-share S&P/CNX Nifty declined 0.2% to 5,095.10. Hindalco shares slipped 0.6%, and Sterlite Industries India Ltd. (SLT 18.50, +0.32, +1.76%) gave up 0.4%, while Maruti Suzuki India Ltd. added 2.4% and Tata Motors Ltd. (TTM 13.77, -0.01, -0.07%) climbed 1.7%.
