MW: European Central Bank leaves key rate unchanged

LONDON (MarketWatch) -- The European Central Bank, as expected, left its key lending rate unchanged at 1% Thursday. Attention now turns to European Central Bank President Jean-Claude Trichet's monthly news conference in Frankfurt at 8:30 a.m. Eastern. Trichet is expected to confirm that the bank is preparing to begin the slow withdrawal special liquidity measures it introduced during the worst of the financial crisis.
