MW: Crude extends gains after weekly jobless claims

NEW YORK (MarketWatch) -- Crude futures slightly extended their gains Thursday after the Labor Department said initial jobless claims fell 5,000 last week to 457,000, the lowest level since September 2008. Crude for January delivery rose 1% to $77.43 a barrel after the data. It was up less than 1% before the data.
