NEW YORK (MarketWatch) -- Crude-oil futures slightly added to their earlier gains Wednesday after the Commerce Department said compensation earned by U.S. workers rose 0.3% last month, another signal that labor markets are slowly improving. Crude for February delivery rose 0.8% to $74.97 a barrel in North American electronic trading. In other commodities, gold was nearly flat, with the February contract trading at $1,087.70 an ounce.
