MW: Dollar pares loss after confidence data

By Deborah Levine
NEW YORK (MarketWatch) -- The dollar pared a loss against major rivals on Tuesday after the Conference Board's index of consumer confidence increased to 52.9 in December, from a revised 50.6 in November, but a little lower than economists had anticipated. The dollar index (DXY 77.45, -0.18, -0.24%) , a measure of the greenback against a trade-weighted basket of major currencies, remained down at 77.482, better than 77.459 from 77.618 in North American trade late Monday. The euro traded at $1.4428, up from $1.4387 on Monday.
