BS: Markets extend losses
 
The markets have dropped further. The Sensex is now at the day's low of 17,177 - down 298 points. The Nifty is down 91 points at 5,131.

The Sensex slipped to a low of 17,241, down 233 points from the previous close. The Sensex is now trading at 17,255, down 218 points. The NSE Nifty is at 5,151, down 70 points.

Among the sectoral indices, bankex, power and metal indices are down 1.5% each.

Among the Sensex-30 stocks, Larsen & Toubro has dropped 4% to Rs 1,572. Tata Power, ICICI Bank and Sterlite have slipped neraly 3% to Rs 1,376, Rs 852 and Rs 833, respectively.

HDFC, HDFC Bank, BHEL, Hindalco and DLF have declined 1.5% each to Rs 2,468, Rs 1,720, Rs 2,355, Rs 163 and Rs 378, respectively.

Mahindra & Mahindra, Hindustan Unilever and ITC are up 1% each at Rs 1,160, Rs 260 and Rs 250, respectively.

The market breadth is extremely negative, out of 2,867 shares traded, 2,011 have declined and 787 have advanced so far on the BSE.
