NEW YORK (MarketWatch) -- Crude oil and gold futures held onto gains on Tuesday, after the New York Federal Reserve said manufacturing activity expanded at a faster pace in February in its region. The Empire State manufacturing index rose to 24.9 in February from 15.9 in January. Crude oil for March delivery rose 1.8% to $75.44 a barrel in recent action. Gold for April delivery was up 2.6% at $1,118 an ounce.
