AP: Oil rises above US$82 in Asia extending Friday's gains as global economy shows improvement
SINGAPORE (AP) - Oil prices have risen above US$82 a barrel in Asia, extending gains from Friday amid signs the global economy may be improving.
Benchmark crude for April delivery was up 77 cents to $82.27 a barrel at late afternoon Monday Singapore time in electronic trading on the New York Mercantile Exchange. The contract rose $1.29 to settle at $81.50 on Friday.
In other Nymex trading in April contracts, heating oil rose 2.00 cents to $2.1174 a gallon, and gasoline gained 2.30 cents to $2.2940 a gallon. Natural gas was down 6.1 cents at $4.532 per 1,000 cubic feet.
In London, Brent crude was up 85 cents at $80.74 on the ICE futures exchange.
