RTRS: Canadian dollar hits 6-week high vs U.S. dollar
LONDON (Reuters) - The Canadian dollar hit a six-week high against the U.S. dollar on Monday after data showed a bigger-than-expected rise in Canadian housing starts.
Data showed Canadian housing starts rose 6.1 percent in February to a seasonally adjusted rate of 196,700 units, beating the consensus expectations of analysts who had called for 190,000 starts.
The commodity-linked currency was also boosted by increased investor appetite for risk and by a rise in oil prices
The Canadian dollar rose as high as C$1.0257 against its U.S. counterpart, its strongest since January 19.
