MADRID (MarketWatch) -- European stock markets opened firmer on Tuesday, as markets attempted to bounce back from losses in the prior session, with gains led by banks like Credit Agricole SA (FR:ACA 9.72, +0.11, +1.14%) and oil stocks like Total SA (FR:FP 40.38, +0.38, +0.95%) . The Stoxx Europe 600 index (ST:STOXX600 279.92, +0.74, +0.27%) rose 0.3% to 279.91, while the French CAC 40 index rose 0.5% to 3,881.26. The German DAX 30 index (DX:DAX 6,988, +17.12, +0.25%) added 0.3% to 6,989.53. London markets remained closed Tuesday for a holiday.
