Australian shares posted solid gains led by financial firms and miners. Consumer stocks were held back by a profit warning from retail giant Woolworths.
The benchmark S&P/ASX200 Index ended 30.3 points higher, or 0.6 per cent, at 4786.1 points, while the broader All Ordinaries Index rose 27.2 points, or 0.6 per cent, to 4888.1.
Among the main sub-indexes, financial shares rallied 1.1 per cent, while materials added 0.5 per cent and industrials rose 0.7 per cent. Consumer staples ended flat.
