MW: Shares of Helmerich & Payne rise 6% on earnings

SAN FRANCISCO (MarketWatch) -- Shares of Helmerich & Payne Inc (HP 54.99, +3.18, +6.13%) rose 6.1% Thursday after the company reported fiscal first-quarter earnings surged 65%, beating analysts' expectations. The contract-drilling company also announced it signed contracts to build and operate eight additional FlexRigs, mobile rigs with advanced drilling technology.
